February offers three unique travel experiences you won’t find in any other month — and all within reach of Athens Airport.
Valentine’s Day in Athens
Athens is one of Europe’s most romantic cities — and February 14th is a perfect excuse to visit. Candlelit tavernas in Plaka, sunset over the Acropolis, and a city that feels intimate without summer’s tourist crush. A genuinely special Valentine’s destination.
Greek Carnival (Apokries)
Apokries — the Greek Carnival season — typically falls in February. Athens erupts in parades, costumes, and celebrations. It’s one of the most authentically Greek cultural experiences you can witness, and almost unknown to international tourists.

A quick guide for first-time February visitors
Weather
February in Athens averages 11–16°C with a mix of sunny spells and rainy days. Noticeably milder than northern Europe. Evenings can be cool so pack layers, but daytime sightseeing is comfortable and often sunny. The first hints of spring appear by late February.
Apokries — Greek Carnival
Apokries is Greece’s vibrant Carnival season, typically running 3 weeks before Clean Monday (Kathari Deftera). Athens hosts parades, costume parties, and street celebrations. Patras also holds Greece’s largest Carnival if you want a day trip. A uniquely Greek experience almost unknown to international visitors.
Clean Monday (Kathari Deftera)
Clean Monday marks the end of Carnival and the start of Orthodox Lent. It’s a public holiday in Greece — Athenians head to parks and hillsides to fly kites and eat traditional Lenten foods. A colourful, uniquely Greek celebration. We operate as normal on this date.
